Project Description: The Engineers Without Borders New York Professional Chapter (EWB NY) has been working with Goodneighbors, a farming cooperative in Rubaya, Rwanda, to enhance the livelihood of community members. EWB NY is working with the community to increase economic growth by collectively selling maize in bulk. In order to complete this goal, EWB NY and Goodneighbors have been working together to teach the co-op farmers refined growing and harvesting practices, collect seasonal farming data from each member, and in the future, Goodneighors and EWB NY will be building a storage facility suitable for maize storage and quality control. EWB NY is scheduled to construct the proposed storage facility in January/February 2018. A successful project will alleviate poverty and increase economic independence for the Rubaya community.
